Adele hated skiing, especially ski boots, when she made her first faltering snow plough turns. But, seduced by the spectacular scenery as much as by the après, she continued to trudge determinedly to ski school.
Several painful years later the breakthrough came in Austria when a Franz Klammer lookalike instructor succeeded in making her parallel faster by constantly booming, “schneller schneller!”.
Nowadays, after 25 years of practice, she can happily explore most of the mountain, loves leisurely lunches on sunny terraces, especially in Italy and France, and is still addicted to the après - with a special passion for ski-boot dancing.
Adele has been writing about travel for the last 16 years for many outlets, including newspapers ranging from the Sunday Mirror to the Sunday Times and for both trade and consumer magazines including The Skier and Snowboarder.
She also writes for inflight magazines, websites and has authored several guidebooks on Italy and France as well as coffee table books. When she is not globetrotting, home is in the New Forest with her husband surrounded by a variety of wildlife - including deer but, sadly, no chamois.
