This chart shows the carbon footprint of a typical ski resort, including energy used by local residents, and to run ski lifts, local transport and services. It shows that 73% of that carbon footprint is accounted for by visitor journeys to reach the resort, most of which are by air or road. If more visitors took the train instead, the resulting decrease in overall harmful emissions would be dramatic.
