Mountain restaurants

The Sansicario area has some great Alpine restaurants. Our favourites include:

  • Soleil Boeuf (00  39 12 281 12 24) above Saniscario where you feel as though you are on the balcony of the roof of the world on the sunny terrace.
  • Bar Il Capret (00 39 12 270 215), Borgata — the perfect spot for hot chocolates or coffee, laced with grappa. The food is good too.
  • Hotel Capricorno (00 39 12 285 02 73), Clotes, just above Sauze d’Oulx. Not cheap, but one of the best lunch spots anywhere in the Italian Alps.

Some of the mountain restaurants serve dinner and can arrange your transport via snowmobiles.

Restaurants in town

Cesana’s main street is home to a popular wine bar La Nata (00 39 12 289 433) where you can get simple meals and snacks complemented by good glasses of wine, including the local Chiomonte, made from grapes grown at 1,000m.

The hotel La Ginestra (00 39 12 289 78 84) also has a restaurant that serves traditional home-cooked food.

Après-ski and nightlife

Neither resort is the place to witness the Piedmontese passeggiata, nor widescreen sports accompanied by pints of Guinness. Instead, the après-ski scene tends to revolve around the hotels, but party animals will find a handful of late-night amusements in Sansicario.
