Courchevel - village

Courchevel encompasses four different villages – 1850, 1650 and 1550 and 1300. Whether you want to flash your cash, have an off-piste adventure or enjoy a family holiday, there is a place to suit.

Each part of the resort has its benefits. Here’s our summary:

  • 1850: See and be seen. Celebrity spotting ahoy. 1850 is the heart of the resort. There are bars and restaurants a-plenty here. This is also the part of the resort where most of the luxury-style chalets are situated.
  • 1650: Also known as Moriond. Great for off-piste skiing, as not so many skiers head over here to use up the fresh powder. In general, the runs are much quieter. 1650 is less concerned with glitz than 1850 and is very convenient for the slopes. Very lively with lots of bars and restaurants. Appreciated by teenagers and families.
  • 1550: Generally less expensive than 1850. A convenient base for families, it has direct access to Courchevel 1850 and the entire Three Valleys’ ski area. The sledging run that goes from 1850 down into 1550 is a lot of fun.
  • 1300: Le Praz is a great way to stay in resort while experiencing a slightly different ambiance. It is more of a traditional village.

Accommodation types

About 90% of the accommodation in Courchevel is located right on the slopes, allowing you to ski in and ski out. There are a range of chalet types, including some very top end ones in 1850 – think hot tubs and champagne.

The resort has six 5* hotels, a number of 4* ones but also plenty of 3* and 2* hotels, apartments and some tourist residential complexes too.

Ski/snowboard equipment hire

Book through a big tour operator and you’ll get help with ski hire. For independent travellers, there are more than 50 ski equipment shops. Many of these are in 1850 but every part of the resort has equipment hire.

Non-ski activities

Courchevel has quite a range of non-ski activities. Hot air ballooning,  ice skating and snow shoeing are among the options, along with sledging and spas. There are quite a few mobile pamper and beauty treatment services that operate in Courchevel.

Childcare

All the ESF schools run kindergartens. Children from 18 months can play at day nursery. From three years old, children can take ski/snow game classes but there are also private Baby Ski lessons are also available through ESF for two year olds, with specially designed ski equipment.
