Mountain restaurants

Serre Chevalier boasts a large selection of great mountain restaurants. Our favourites include:

  • Peyra-Juana (00 33 681 11 40 26) in Monêtier for authentic local food in simple, friendly surroundings
  • Pi Maï (00 33 492 24 83 63) in Fréjus for long lunches in this slope-side hamlet – it’s like walking around in a postcard
  • Le Bivouac (00 33 492 24 87 72) in Villeneuve for gourmet dining (at a price)

Restaurants in town

Good, atmospheric restaurants can be found throughout Briançon and the surrounding villages, providing visitors with a range of dining options for most budgets.

In keeping with its urban status, Briançon offers the greatest variety of eateries, although a favourite is Le Passé Simple (00 33 492 21 37 43), which puts a modern twist on traditional mountain dishes.

Chantemerle has a great selection of restaurants, including the Mediterranean-inspired Triptyque (00 33 492 24 14 94) and cosy Le Petit Chalet (00 33 492 24 05 79). For a real gastronomic treat, head for the Restaurant La Maison Alliey (00 33 492 24 40 02) in Monêtier.

Après-ski and nightlife

Party animals should probably consider staying in nearby Les Deux Alpes rather than Serre Che, which is a fairly quiet resort. Briançon has the largest choice of bars while Villeneuve has the liveliest après-ski scene and is home to the best nightclub, La Baïta. Here are our tips:

  • Briançon: Saloon, Duo and Spirit
  • Chantemerle: Extreme Bar, The Saloon and O’Sullivans
  • Villeneuve: La Grotte du Yeti, Le Frog, LB Bar and Le Mojo
  • Monêtier: l’Alpen and Rif Blanc

Alternatively, join the locals in Monêtier’s spa or the nearby ice driving circuit followed by apéritifs in small, candle-lit Gallic bars such as Bar Central (Briançon), Noctambule (Villeneuve) and Que Tal (Monêtier).
