The countryside whizzed past

We had a lovely two weeks away in Peisey-Vallandry and found the sking excellent. The snow was kept in great condition and we did have half a metre of fresh stuff over the duration of our fortnight holiday, which was a fantastic bonus. We had all weather conditions over the fortnight and had a few beautiful days but also a few days where visibility was poor but that didn’t stop our adventures! The journey to La Plagne was easy from Vallandry though some days once we got there a few of the lifts were shut.
 
In our group we have; 2 very proficient older skiers (My partners Dad who skis with us is 70 and still loving it,) 2 mad men who have been skiing since they were kids and love to hurtle down the blacks and play in the board park; and 2 wives who have learnt to ski as adults, are competent but prefer a more sedate pace and I must say this resort was ideal for us all.

We stayed at Hucksters Lodge, which was extremely basic, but the food was lovely; staff welcoming and helpful, and location perfect with two lifts within 100 metres. The rooms in the hotel were a bit on the cosy side and without luxury but we had a sufficient shower and sink in our room with a loo up the corridor, essentially you get what you pay for and we had a very limited budget.  Considering the other options we’d looked at, it was extremely good value for money.  They do also have apartments available for larger groups staying together who can then have meals in the main dining area. We also had, packed lunches, lift passes and ski hire arranged through Hucksters, which made it all very easy.
 
During our stay we visited the La Trapouin restaurant near the Vallandry lift during the day but also for an evening meal, which was lovely and I would thoroughly recommend this for a traditional French fare. We also found the Mont Blanc bar to be great fun with live music nights.
 
We travelled by Eurostar from London to Bourg St Maurice during the day on the way out and overnight on the way back. The daytime journey seemed to pass quite quickly as we watched the free films on our phones and watched the countryside whizz past, the train felt open and airy and it wasn’t very busy so we could move about. The journey home however was a bit less fun as it was very crowded with people and luggage. The train was also dirty from its inbound journey and delayed by an hour.  That said, it is difficult to beat the convenience of taking the train direct from London to the base of the mountain and I would definitely do it again.
