Montgenevre - transfer guide
Montgenevre is normally served by Briancon and Oulx train stations - both offering access to the resort transfer by bus or taxi. But this winter the route to Oulx is blocked by a landslide, so daytime journeys are to St Michel Valloire instead
St Michel Valloire - Montgenevre (for 2023-24 season only)
In August 2023, a rockslide caused the blockage of the route between Paris and Modane, Bardoneccia and Oulx.
This means that skiers wanting to reach Oulx directly from Paris, won't be able to. The rockslide took place between St Michel Valloire and Modane. The likelihood is that the blockage won't be cleared until summer 2024.
So for this winter 2023-24, trains from Paris (which normally access at Modane, Bardoneccia and Oulx) will only go as far as St Michel Valloire. Bus services are running from there to some of the resorts, which means daytime rail travel is possible, but the bus transfer is longer than it would be normally (as it's starting from a station that is further from resort).
The Montgenevre Tourist Office's own website transport page doesn't give much useful information about alternatives to the landslide: https://montgenevre.com/hiver/decouvrir/acces-transports/

Normally, from Oulx to Montgenevre takes about 30 minutes by bus.
As you'll note from the timetables above, from St Michel Valloire to Montgenvre takes 1hr 45 mins.
It only costs €6.50 one way per adult though, and about half that for kids.
Extraordinarily, you can't book bus tickets between St Michel Valloire and Montgenevre on the website of the bus company operating the bus (Resalp). Instead you need to book them on the SNCF TER website https://www.ter.sncf.com/sud-provence-alpes-cote-d-azur
You'll need to put 'St Michel Valloire' as the departure point and 'Montgenevre Gare Routiere' as the arrival point (or vice versa, depending on your direction of travel).

Bus transfers - Briancon - Montgenevre
Buses depart from a bay adjacent to Briancon station, so when you exit the train station it's right there.
If there is a time gap between your train arriving/departing and the bus arriving/departing, then there is the hotel cafe opposite where you can wait in the warm and have a drink or a bite.
You can buy bus tickets at a counter at the train station, but it is recommended to buy them in advance from buy them in advance online at www.05voyageurs.com which shows timetable information too.

Briancon station information & restaurants
If you have time while waiting for the bus or train, Hotel de la Gare, opposite the station, does a very reasonable dinner - classic French dishes.
So if you are getting an overnight train, you can get to the station early and have a nice relaxed dinner before getting onto your sleeper train.
The hotel also offers continental breakfast, if you want to have a meal just after arriving at Briancon in the morning from the sleeper train from Paris.

Bus transfers - Modane - Montgenevre
The bus company that runs buses to Montgenevre has decided to stop running buses from Oulx to Montgenevre and run buses from Modane to Montgenevre instead. Modane is on the same train line as Paris to Oulx, but it is closer to Paris and still within France (Oulx is just over the border, in Italy).

Oulx station information & restaurants
If you have time while waiting for the bus or train, there is a cafe bar next to the the station, and one right opposite the station too.
The one opposite serves complimentary Italian tapas - a tradition in the region. You just have to buy a drink - then you can nibble away.
It's a good place to wait for your train - very relaxed, Italian ambience.
Both serve freshly made Italian sandwiches, and the one opposite serves meals too.
