How to transfer from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Tignes

When travelling to or from Tignes by train, you'll arrive or depart from Bourg-Saint-Maurice railway station, which has plenty of facilities. In the station, there's a waiting room and a shop. Opposite the station there are cafes and restaurants, as well as plenty of other shops nearby.

Buses are an excellent eco-friendly way to transfer between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Tignes. The main bus service operating between the two is called Altibus. Their timetable is generally created to dovetail with train arrivals and departures, although some connections will be more convenient than others. Luggage and ski equipment are carried for free on-board.

Conveniently, buses depart from a bay right outside Bourg-Saint-Maurice station. If you're early, the train station has a big hall and waiting room, so you can wait in the warmth. There's also a shop which also sells hot drinks, as well as cafés and restaurants nearby - so plenty of places to wait, eat and drink if there's a gap between your train and the next bus. 

While you can buy bus tickets at a counter at the train station, it's recommended to purchase them in advance online at www.altibus.com. At the moment, it doesn't look like Altibus will publish a timetable in English. Hence, here's last season's timetable in French.

Timetables and booking for winter 2026–27 will hopefully become available in November. The number of buses available is normally in response to demand, with more added where required. But it is always encouraged to book early to ensure you get tickets.

Bourg-Saint-Maurice station information & restaurants

Bourg-Saint-Maurice station has a waiting room and a ticket hall where you can buy tickets for buses if you haven't pre-booked.

There's a small shop (open from about 6 am) that sells newspapers, magazines, croissants and sandwiches.

The bus station is located right outside the railway station, as is the taxi rank. So you can wait for your transfer bus in the station waiting room or ticket hall.

Just a few metres from the station, there are plenty of restaurants, so if you want to have breakfast, lunch or dinner before catching your train, then you have lots of decent options.
